The Rashomon Phenomenon

What is the Rashomon Phenomenon?  Which of the interpretations discussed in the text do you find the most intriguing and why?

The Rashomon Phenomenon involves the perception of what is true or false based on a collection of accounts told by different people. I find the Marxism interpretation of Rashomon most intriguing because it focuses on the social status of each character and expresses why each side of their stories was told to benefit them in the end. The lower class villain appeared to be poor in the film but he was able to lure an upper-class citizen into his trap because of his desire for wealth. The woodcutter’s story was more believable since he was not directly involved in the scandal but was only an observer. His only alteration of the events occurred when he omitted the part about the dagger. Since he stole the dagger to feed his family, he tried to make amends by taking the baby that was found abandoned home to raise with his other children.
