The Importance of Interpersonal Communication

Why do we need to take intercultural communication into consideration as communicators?

In today’s society, it is becoming more diverse in schools and the work place.  Because the United States is becoming more diverse, it is important to take into consideration cultural differences and how we can effectively communicate with people from different backgrounds.  Nonverbal and verbal communication can play a factor in the way information is comprehended by others.  Since language barriers are one of the more common contributors to misinterpretation, it is essential that we as communicators be willing to understand the social backgrounds of other ethnicity.  We must also be open to learning new ways of effectively improving our communication skills in order to avoid allegations of discrimination.
