Digital Divide

Explain the concept of the digital device. Why does the digital device exist? List and explain three actions by government, corporations or individuals that would help eliminate the divide.
The digital divide concept is a divide between people who have access to the internet and people who have limited income and resources or who live in rural areas and as a result, lack the access to digital technology.  In order to help eliminate the divide, the government can provide programs that allow older adults or low income households to receive a discounted rate for internet access. Corporations can also provide more access to digital and wireless technologies in rural areas. Most people who don’t have access are those who are over age 65 or lack a high school diploma.  They can start by enrolling in a class that teaches basic skills and knowledge of technology.
