Magazines

Why do today's magazines target specialized audiences for readership?  Give at least three specific examples of this phenomenon and the reasons for each.

Magazines target specific audiences because it makes them unique and different from other magazines.  They are also able to appeal to a broader audience.  Readers will anticipate reading the next month's issue if it is tailored to their interests and hobbies.  The three specific targets are consumer magazines, trade, technical and professional magazines, and company magazines.  Consumer magazines are usually geared toward audiences based on their age, sex, hobbies, and leisure activities.  These include everything from cooking, gardening, fashion, sports, fitness, and entertainers and celebrities.  Trade and technical magazines are published for subscribers who work in a particular field.  They are a guide for business owners and they feature advertising that is directly related to that field.  Company magazines are produced by actual businesses and are used for promotional purposes.  Most of their readers are people who work for the company or stockholders.
