How did the quiz show scandals of the 1950s affect the relationship between advertisers and the networks? Is the relationship between advertisers and the networks different or the same today?
The quiz show scandals of the 1950s influenced the way that advertisers directly deal with the television networks. The sponsors were involved in creating the game shows and using the advertisement to increase the number of viewers and buyers of their products. They were also accused of rigging the shows and giving the answers to contestants as a way to rig to the number of viewers. Today I do not believe that advertisers and sponsors are directly involved in the creation of the new quiz shows. However they do benefit monetarily from having their product name associated with the ads and prizes related to the shows.
