Shattered Glass

Why did Steven Glass do what he did? What ethical flags does it raise for communicators?

In the movie "Shattered Glass", Steven appeared to be an ambitious young man who was not only striving to become a great reporter and journalist, but also wanted to be well liked within his group of colleagues.  He learned that by altering the facts in his stories, he was able to create interesting and sensational news reports.  He also wanted to be acknowledged by other reporters and magazine agencies for his ability to capture and tell stories that his competitors were unable to cover.  Even though he gained acceptance from his coworkers and made a name for himself, his actions still raised ethical flags.  His actions could have negatively changed the way people view magazine journalists and question the truthfulness of their reportings.
