TV Manufacturers and Consumers

The competition between television manufacturers helped to produce better, less expensive television sets for consumers. Compare the competition between television manufacturers during the 1940s and 1950s with computer companies today.
When televisions first became popular in the 1950s, there were a limited number of manufacturers production them so that made them expensive and less attainable for the average household.  As the technology significantly advanced and the number of manufacturers increased, it made it possible for almost every American to own at least one if not more television sets.  Today many countries produce TVs and we are able to compare not only prices, but different features when deciding to purchase a television set.  Since new models are continuously being produced, the average consumer is able to buy last year’s model for a significantly lower price as compared to when they were first produced.
